New Under The Nile!
Saturday, September 6th, 2008We just got in some great new products from Under The Nile! Under The Nile designs and creates fun organic baby clothing and toys made from Demeter-certified organic Egyptian cotton, reflecting both a care for the environment and a care for others. All products are made from 100% handpicked organic cotton, without the use of pesticides or chemicals throughout the entire production process. Grown exclusively in Egypt, the products reflect the extremely soft and durable features that Egyptian cotton is known for. Under the Nile’s dyeing process uses metal-free or vegetable dyes. Accessories such as buttons and zippers are made from organically friendly elements such as wood, shell or nickel-free metals.
Under The Nile is also a proud participant in the 13-Villages-Project: a SEKEM initiative to fight against poverty and its causes in rural Egypt. This program has identified 13 villages in Egypt in desperate need of healthier living conditions. The women in these villages were capable of working and wanting to contribute income to their families, but were unable to leave their villages, so the work was brought to them. Each village is responsible for making one style of Under The Nile’s collection of fruit and vegetables. The women involved in the project have been empowered and the whole village is proud of what they have accomplished. So not only are you buying an adorable little toy, but you are supporting this wonderful project!
